FROP a. s. Hlohovec: Company History

Company FROP was originally founded in 1958 by the Union of Slovak Consumer Cooperatives as an independent cooperative enterprise for the Západoslovenský region. In the same year the construction of two production halls of total area of 1 740 m² was completed. Originally company focused on repairs of motor vehicles, locksmitting, service and wiring, repairs of cooling units. In 1969 the Cooperative for promotion and maintenance called OPTIMA was founded, which took over the management of regional enterprises in Hlohovec, Nitra, Žilina, Zvolen and Prešov. Optima itself in the 80’s and 90s employed almost 900 employees. Hlohovec branch disposed with 226 employees and  115 motor vehicles for service.

Enterprise Optima next to its other activities undertook service of imported goods from non-socialist countries – coffee machines, drink machines, ice machines, music machines, billiards, beer keg triggers, but also produced gas fryers for meat products, wafle machines, or soft drink machines.

In 1991 Hlohovec subsidiary got independent and founded FROP Cooperative, which tranformed itself into FROP shareholding company in 1992 with main shareholders being COOP Cooperatives of Západoslovenský region and the Slovak Union of Consumer Cooperatives in Bratislava.

From 1996 FROP specialises in the delivery and assembly of commercial units, mainly for the grocery shops. Since 1997 Frop has been importing cooling units, refrigerating and cooling boxes, check-out counters, shelving racks from group ARNEG, but also from various Czech and Polish producers.
